Statistics methodology and data sources

Every calculated percentage must expose its numerator and denominator, remain within its mathematical bounds, and identify when its underlying data was last updated.

Calculation rules

Pole rate	Poles in Grands Prix the driver started ÷ Grand Prix starts × 100	A pole followed by a non-start remains in the career pole total but is excluded from this per-start rate.
Fastest-lap rate	Official fastest laps ÷ Grand Prix starts × 100	Uses the fastest-lap rank attached to the official race result.
DNF rate	Mechanical or incident retirements ÷ Grand Prix starts × 100	DNS, DNQ, DNPQ, withdrawals, disqualifications, and exclusions are not DNFs.
Pole-to-win rate	Wins in races where the driver recorded pole ÷ pole positions × 100	Race-level records are intersected; total career wins are never used as the numerator.
Era-adjusted points	Fixed-scale GP points ÷ Grand Prix starts	Official classifications are scored 25–18–15–12–10–8–6–4–2–1. Sprint and bonus points are excluded.
Qualifying gap	Average signed time difference in the latest segment both drivers completed	The percentage gap uses the pair mean as a neutral denominator. Teammate-only figures keep same-team events.
Races ahead (H2H)	Count of better official classifications in shared Grands Prix	Only races where both drivers have a numeric official classification are eligible.

If a denominator is zero, the rate is reported as N/A. Rate calculations reject a numerator larger than its denominator instead of publishing an impossible percentage.

Base statistics

Entries and starts: Entries are race-result records retained as career context. Per-start performance rates use starts, which exclude DNS, DNQ, DNPQ, and withdrawals.
Pole positions: Unique Grands Prix with an official P1 qualifying record. For historical seasons without full qualifying classifications, the source's pole/grid P1 record is used.
Points: Raw totals are championship points awarded under the rules in force at the time, including sprint points. Era-adjusted points separately apply one fixed Grand Prix scale to every official classification and exclude sprint and bonus points.
Shared and teammate scopes: Shared-season results keep only years in which both drivers recorded a Grand Prix result. Teammate-only results further require both drivers to represent the same team at the same Grand Prix.
Championships: FIA Formula One World Drivers' or Constructors' Championships, as applicable.

Data sources

Jolpica F1 API (the Ergast successor) is the primary historical source for races, results, grids, qualifying, drivers, constructors, and standings.
FastF1 is the primary current-weekend source for session classifications, qualifying, detailed timing, and race results.
OpenF1 provides supplementary current-session and meeting data.

Freshness and quality controls

Current weekends

Results are polled every 30 minutes during race weekends, with correction checks every two hours.

Historical records

Historical values change when upstream corrections or verified backfills are ingested.

Visible timestamps

Comparison pages show the latest update across the race, qualifying, sprint, and standings rows used in that comparison.
