Drivers' Champion
Alberto Ascari→Alberto Ascari won the 1952 Formula One World Championship, driving for Scuderia Ferrari. The season comprised eight races, including the Indianapolis 500, which counted toward the championship but featured non-regular F1 entrants. Ascari achieved a dominant campaign, winning six of the eight rounds, all for Ferrari. His victories came at the Belgian, French, British, German, Dutch, and Italian Grands Prix, with five of these wins secured from pole position.
Scuderia Ferrari was the leading team, winning seven of the eight races; the only exception was the Indianapolis 500, won by Troy Ruttman in a Kuzma. The Swiss Grand Prix, the season opener, was won by Piero Taruffi, also for Ferrari. Only three different drivers won races during the year.
The championship battle quickly became one-sided. After missing the opening round, Ascari joined the title race in round three and immediately began to accumulate victories. By the fourth round, he led the standings, and his points advantage grew steadily, with no other driver able to mount a sustained challenge. Nino Farina and Piero Taruffi were the closest competitors, but neither won more than one race or matched Ascari’s consistency.
The 1952 season is notable in Formula One history for Ferrari’s dominance and for being run under Formula Two regulations, due to a lack of competitive Formula One cars. This era marked a period of technical transition and highlighted the reliability and speed of the Ferrari team. No significant wet-weather events or record-breaking milestones beyond Ferrari’s and Ascari’s dominance are indicated in the data.
