2015 Season

Lewis Hamilton secured the Drivers’ Championship, driving for Mercedes, in a season contested over 19 races. Mercedes-AMG Petronas F1 Team also clinched the Constructors’ Championship with a total of 703 points and 16 wins. The season was characterized by Mercedes’ dominance, with Hamilton and teammate Nico Rosberg winning all but three races. Hamilton achieved 10 victories and 17 podiums, while Rosberg claimed 6 wins and 15 podiums. Sebastian Vettel, driving for Ferrari, was the only non-Mercedes driver to win races, taking three victories and finishing third in the standings.

The title battle saw Hamilton establish an early lead. After the first three rounds, Hamilton led with 68 points, ahead of Vettel and Rosberg. By round 4, Hamilton’s advantage over Rosberg increased, and he consistently extended his lead throughout the season. After round 12, Hamilton had 252 points to Rosberg’s 199, and by the end of the season, the gap stood at 59 points (Hamilton 381, Rosberg 322). Vettel finished with 278 points.

Mercedes’ performance marked a continuation of dominance in the turbo-hybrid era, with the team securing 11 pole positions for Hamilton and 7 for Rosberg. Only three drivers won races during the season. Notable reliability issues included 12 retirements and various technical failures, but these did not significantly affect the championship outcome. The 2015 season is noted for Mercedes’ sustained supremacy and limited competition for race wins, reflecting the competitive landscape of the early hybrid regulation era.
