Drivers' Champion
Niki Lauda→Constructors' Champion
Ferrari→Niki Lauda secured the Drivers’ Championship, driving for Ferrari, in a season that featured 14 Grands Prix. Ferrari also claimed the Constructors’ Championship, marking a significant achievement for the team. The season saw nine different race winners, reflecting a competitive field, but Lauda’s consistency and speed were decisive. He won five races (Monaco, Belgium, Sweden, France, and the United States) and achieved eight podiums, the most of any driver. Lauda also took nine pole positions, underlining his qualifying dominance.
The championship battle began with Emerson Fittipaldi (McLaren) leading after the early rounds, but Lauda steadily gained momentum. By round six, Lauda overtook Fittipaldi in the standings and built a commanding lead. After round nine, Lauda had amassed 47 points, with his closest rival, Carlos Reutemann (Brabham), at 25 points. Lauda continued to extend his advantage, finishing the season with 64.5 points, ahead of Fittipaldi (45 points) and Reutemann (37 points).
The Constructors’ title was closely contested in the first half of the season, with Brabham and McLaren challenging Ferrari. However, Ferrari pulled ahead in the latter stages, ending with 72.5 points to Brabham’s 54 and McLaren’s 53.
The 1975 season is notable for Lauda’s dominant performance and Ferrari’s resurgence. High attrition rates were observed, with 54 retirements due to accidents and 27 due to engine failures, characteristic of the era’s reliability challenges. The season stands out for its competitive variety but was ultimately defined by Lauda and Ferrari’s superiority.
